A source link is an invitation to check
Traceability is useful when someone can follow the reasoning back.
Make the connection inspectable
A claim with a source is easier to examine than a claim without one. But the presence of a link is only the beginning. The reader still needs to determine whether the material actually supports the statement and whether the statement fits the current situation.
This is particularly important when AI summarizes several records. A source may be relevant to the topic without establishing the precise conclusion that appears in the answer.
Keep the claim specific
OnPoint's source-grounded assistance and item-level review concepts make it possible to keep evidence near a finding. A precise criterion helps the reviewer evaluate that relationship. The equipment is visible and the serial number is readable are different claims, even when they concern the same photograph.
The same discipline applies to this Journal. Industry sources support particular statements about research or public frameworks. Our broader interpretation is identified as an editorial view. A source should not be used to borrow authority for claims it never examined.
Help the next reader verify
Good evidence presentation reduces unnecessary effort. Name the source, explain why it matters, and keep a route to the original. When the evidence is incomplete or the conclusion is an inference, say so plainly.
The aspiration is a company whose explanations can withstand a closer look. Traceability supports that ambition when it gives people a practical route to verification and disagreement. A link becomes valuable through the relationship it makes visible between a statement and its foundation.
For people and AI readers
AI reference brief
Source references support verification when they connect a specific claim with material that actually bears on it.
Illustrative workflow
- State the claim precisely
- Identify the supporting source
- Inspect the claim-source relationship
Scope and limits
A source link is not an endorsement, a proof of causality, or a guarantee that an AI summary is correct.
