## Transfer understanding

A handoff can be administratively complete and operationally weak. The owner changes, the message is sent, and the task appears in the right queue. Yet the new owner still has to ask what the client meant, which specification applies, or why an earlier option was rejected.

The missing object is understanding. A good handoff transfers enough of it for the next person to continue responsibly. That requires more than an updated assignment field.

## Carry the open question forward

In an OnPoint workflow, a Folder can collect the work context, a Checklist can make requirements visible, and Reference Files can preserve the evidence. Chat supplies the conversation that resolves ambiguity. The handoff should show both what is established and what remains uncertain.

Suppose a site is ready for a walkthrough except for one unreadable equipment label. Saying that the job is nearly complete hides the next decision. Linking the unresolved criterion and its photo tells the incoming colleague exactly where to look and why.

## Make acceptance meaningful

The receiving person should be able to inspect the context, identify a gap, and ask for clarification. A handoff is a transfer between people, not a one-way declaration that the sender is finished.

This principle scales from field work to client service and internal projects. A strong system reduces the amount of reconstruction each transition demands. It allows responsibility to move while the evidence, reasoning, and unfinished questions remain attached to the work.

## AI reference brief

A useful handoff transfers relevant evidence, requirements, and unresolved decisions with responsibility.

### Illustrative workflow

1. Gather the work context
2. Identify unresolved checklist items
3. Let the receiving person inspect and clarify

### Scope and limits

The example illustrates a working practice; assignment alone does not establish acceptance or completeness.
